I am a Japanese living in Gold Coast and this is my FAV place to go! It is a mixture of typical Izakaya style food with modern/unique/western twists. Unlike most of the other Japanese eateries in Surfers, ambience is great. Not to bland, cosy with wooden tables and fixtures. Perfect to have a casual but nice date night! It is more "Izakaya style" setting, so don't expect too much "privacy" like of high-end Japanese restaurants. It is meant to be fun and noisy. Prices are reasonable and food is super tasty! I absoblutely LOVE eggplant omelette with Korean chilli paste. They've desent selection of alcoholic beverages as well :) And for your information "Goldie", Soba noodle is more popular served cold. You can get warm Soba Noodle in a broth, but Zarusoba is the main way Soba Noodles are eaten in Japan and it is popular dish served cold. Whenever I have visitors to Gold Coast I ALWAYS take my friends to this place and they all love it!!!

As per the previous review the restaurant itself is quiet a nice space. There's a place to sit at the bar, seating outside and in. I loved that it reminded me of being in Japan. The menu is limited (particularly for a vege-aquarian), but interesting. We started with the miso chips. Essentially french fries in a miso and black sesame paste. They were a touch sweet for our liking, but pretty good nevertheless. Our mains were more traditional. My partner had a bowl of udon soup with fish, tempura prawns, eggplant and beans. And a raw egg cracked in the middle, which cooked in the hot broth. It was incredibly tasty. I had a bowl of rice, garnished with shredded seaweed and spring onions on the sides, in the middle I had minced raw tuna and a very soft boiled egg. My meal was the perfect pre-marathon meal with carbs & protein! This was traditional Japanese food like I ate in Japan, I enjoyed the experience immensely.

We came here last weekend on the high recommendation of a friend. It's quite an attractive and funky looking restaurant from the street. Unfortunately we were seated next to a family with small, noisy kids which made the experience less pleasant and the restaurant is small and echoey. They have some interesting/strange menu choices such as Japanese nachos, tofu green curry etc but we ordered teriyaki chicken and soba noodles. I was disappointed as I didn't realise the noodles would be cold. The teriyaki chicken was nice but strangely came with a dollop of mash. I guess they're trying to push the boundaries and blend east with west but it wasn't really my thing. I prefer the traditional
