Mermaids has always been hit and miss for me, though I can honestly say each time my partner and I have been we have thoroughly enjoyed fresh, thoughtful food served promptly, been suggested accompanying wines or cocktails and generally have enjoyed the experience. Though not a total fine dining experience, the waitstaff have always extended themselves to offer tastings and consult the kitchen for anything they didnt know or to meet my requests. That goes a long way for me and I will go back The best time we have found is during the week when is less busy and is just superb with a gentle warm breeze with the moon out and gently crashing waves, exquisite.

Before traveling to Burleigh Heads from Sydney I read a number of decent reviews about Mermaids. On arrival my friends and I checked out the restaurant. It looked clean and was excellently located. I was initially impressed on arrival as three staff greeted us and seated us. However, this was the beginning and the end of the hospitality at Mermaids. Within 10 minutes of arriving we had ordered drinks only to wait another 45 minutes for their arrival. The waitor was reluctant to take our orders and was very rude. We noticed that other tables who had been seated long before we were had not received any food. We asked the wait staff numerous times what was happening with our food and they said that they were very busy and that our entrees would arrive shortly. However, they were at no means to capacity as more than half the tables were empty. After an our and a half our entrees finally arrived. At this point we asked if our mains had been started, they had not and so we left while still paying for what we had eaten. I would not recommend eating here ever. Don't waste your good money on such an appalling experience. In comparison my friends and I went to the pub across the road, their kitchen was closed however they opened it for us and made us dinner. Great location, but don't waste your money.

I would give this place 4 stars. I have dined at this Restaurant 8 times since we have moved to the Gold Coast 12 months ago. The best service I receive is on a Sunday, there is an older Man who I think supervises, We never make a reservation however he seems to make a table for us with no fuss and is always pleasant. We seem to get the worst service when there is a lady in control, would not know her name though. There is one dish I could order over and over again which is the linguini pasta. This Pasta is absoutly delicious. What I love about arriving at the restaurant you walk past the kitchen and the chefs are always smiling and will say hello. There have been a few times where the waiters could know a little more about the menue however I apriciate when they apoligise and explain they have only worked in the restaurant a week or so, I apriciate the honesty. The prices for the meals I find ok however the beverage price are a tad expensive. The restaurant above have cheaper drinks which on some occasions have changed our mind. We enjoy a bottle of wine and a few cocktails with our meals but not at that price.

Worst dining experience I've ever had. Right from the start the staff showed they had no idea how to run a dining facility. Poor people skills and no direction, the apparent manager (if you believe her) was discovered to have had only weeks experience in the Restaurant. She was rude and offered no leadership to her staff. The table waiters showed no knowledge of the menu and appeared to lack any understanding of the hospitality game. The food was more then disappointing, tastless and well over priced. (Not one of our group of 14 expressed that they enjoyed their food.) The location of the restaurant was the only positive point though this was nowhere near enought to save the experience. We will not be back.
