I had heard great reviews from other friends but was disappointed with the taste & quality of the food. The meat & sauce in the dishes was tasteless. The Bintang was very good though.

This has been one of my favourite restaurants on the coast for the whole 25 years it has operated, currently at Palm Beach and previously at Burleigh Heads. Lets start with the not so great news - the service can be variable, a bit Indo if you get my drift. However who can worry about that small negative when Doris the voluble owner reminds you that you have put on weight, or your partner is pregnant (no Doris, just FAT). She is a scream and a genuine character. The food is great - easily the best Indonesian I have ever eaten, including in Indonesia. The Beef Rendang and Lamb Kambing are so tender and flavoursome we can never pass them up. The Satays are excellent, with just a little charring to add flavour, and the peanut sauce is almost as good as mine !! The Kids love them. The soup is also a surprise. The Gado Gado could be a little more imaginative, but there are other vego options that are good, especially the Chilli Eggs (good for fertility apparently). I would like to see some more 'Blackboard' specials, maybe some more Balinese style pork dishes or other dishes from the Archipelago. Also, make sure there is always gamelan music in the background as sometimes it is turned off. Love your work Doris and don't retire anytime soon !!!!

Have dined here on three occasions and will return. Good quality across all the dishes we have tried. Service can be a little uncertain at times but the good manners and friendly attitude of the staff more than make up for any small mistakes. More bamboo than you can poke a stick at but it adds to the relaxed and cosy atmosphere. We ordered a banquet for two which offered us several dishes and all were good, with some exceptional, particulary in the entrees. A nice restaurant for a birthday celebration, anniverary - you can find a quiet booth and feel nicely isolated.
