Spendelove Bistro and bar, Southport

cafe

We used to come here regularly for breakfast and had never tried the lunches there so we visited a few weeks ago.

I wasn’t as impressed with my lunch as I was with their breakfast (I love their bircher museli.) I also felt the prices were quite pricey. My BLT was $14.50 and my partners fish and chips was $19.50. I don’t mind paying those prices for a restaurant but as it’s a cafe amongst a food market hall (albeit an upmarket food hall), I felt they were pushing it.

My roll was soft and sweet but I personally prefer something with a bit of crunch. My partners fish was ok but he felt it lacked a bit of oompf. Below are some pics we took.

The seating options are at a large, square communal table or long bench inside or you can sit at tables out in the market hall however it can get quite loud and echo’y.

I think I may stick to their breakfasts in the future which I think are better value for money.

The fish and chips which was $19.50. Well presented but my partner felt it lacked flavouring.

Bumble’s Cafe in Budds Beach

cafe, Gold Coast

Last Saturday morning we went to Bumble’s cafe in Budds Beach (in Surfers Paradise - it’s on the river front.)

This cute little cafe has been a big favourite of mine for many years. It opposite the river and it’s a popular spot with families as kids can swim in the river and it’s a nice quiet place to have a picnic.

Bumble’s serves amazing food and the cafe is always beautifully decorated with single flowers in used water bottles decorating the back shelf and decorative pebbles in concrete feature throughout.

It’s become quite a yuppie haunt and it can be very hard to grab a table but don’t be deterred. The breakfasts are wonderful and are city standard with top ingredients used. The service is fast, professional and friendly and the coffee is honestly one of the best I’ve had - they really know how to make a great cup.

If you haven’t been here before then definately visit for breakfast or lunch. They’re open till about 6pm during Summer.
