Bollywood Kitchen Restaurant Byron Bay
Byron Bay September 9th, 2007This restaurant is located on Jonson street - about a 5 minute walk from the central main streets of Byron Bay and it is located amongst a cluster of shops near the Woolworths supermarket. It’s not the most attractive location given that it’s in a carpark but the bright yellow front with purple and orange tablecloths looked inviting.
Inside there are colourful fabrics hanging from the roof and plenty of twinkling lights, sequined Indian cusions and tapestries of Indian gods adorning the walls.
We booked our table and it was lucky because the small dining room was already packed. Bollywood kitchen is a little unique in that it serves Indian and Persian food so we decided to sample a mix of the two. The dishes we had included samosas (home made and with well spiced mince inside) and vegetarian pakoras which included battered and fried onion rings, eggplant and I think pumpkin. The entree’s were about $7 each. We also had butter chicken and lamb curry (approx $17 ea), channa masala (spicy chickpeas in a tomato sauce - and they were spicy!!!) and one of the persian chicken dishes. To be honest I was pretty drunk after visiting the Railway Hotel that I can’t remember all the dishes we ordered! I do remember that they were very tasty, well spiced and hot when needed. I was particularly a fan of the lamb curry.

Inside the restaurant - lots of twinkling lights and colourful fabrics
A Ganesh tapestry
Vegetarian Pakoras
Meat samosas - we also had vegetarian ones
One of the many curries we ordered
The salty naan bread - I’m more of a fan of the thinner dinner plate sized naan bread that comes out of the tandoor
